Hailing from Zurich, Switzerland, metalcore/melodic metaller’s Atropas have been getting their name out there with their constant touring until recently when they had  short break to focus on other aspects of their music. In this time, they have shared the stage with national and international bands including Nile, Skindred, Myrelia, Dreamshade and many more.

They released their new EP ‘From Ashes‘ through Italian label WormHoleDeath.

Kicking off this EP is ‘Rapture‘, a track that clearly shows which bands Atropas take influence from – the likes of Killswitch Engage and August Burns Red. The track features groove riffs and throat ripping vocals. ‘Burn It To The Ground is up next; a fast, heavy track with melodic metal vibes.

Orchids has a slow paced intro with heavy vocals leading into cleans; the usual Metalcore formula. I feel that ‘Ashes‘ is the standout track on this EP for me and it goes back to that combination of August Burns Red mixed with Killswitch Engage.

Redeem the Lost is definitely an anthem for the fans; a bit of a dedication to those who have been following the band since the beginning and ‘My Oath‘ is the perfect closer to this EP.

This EP definitely pays homage to the genre the band play. One criticism is that the mini breakdowns do get a bit repetitive throughout but, overall, it’s a good EP from Atropas.

For Fans Of: Killswitch Engage, August Burns Red, Of Mice and Men.
