Have a listen to: 'Pour Up'
Love them or hate them, Deez Nuts are back to party with us with ‘Word Is Bond‘, delivering more of their rap infused hardcore and their ‘fuck you’ attitude.
Straight away, the intro track ‘Word‘ gets your head banging with the dirtiest of riffs as it leads into ‘Yesterday’ where the proper Deez Nuts kick in and JJ Peters‘ distinctive swagger takes over. Instantly I get the feeling this song is going to be great live as the words “seems like just yesterday” scream for a crowd shout out and 2-step grooves have me wanting to dance along.
In fact, there are many occasions on this album where Deez Nuts would invite a crowd to lose their voices. The chorus for recent video ‘Face This On My Own‘ has a very anthemic atmosphere to it in that sense. Same goes for title track ‘Word Is Bond‘ and ‘What’s Good‘.
‘Pour Up‘ continues a Deez Nuts trend of fun songs about drinking and smoking. Picking up the tempo, this is a high energy track with more heavy riffs that I dare anyone not to bang their head to. Even though Deez Nuts keep up their usual fun vibe with ‘What I Gotta Do‘, the Aussie’s seem to have written their heaviest album to date. The feel of the album is darker and somewhat more serious than its predecessor ‘Bout It‘, it is grittier with heavier chuggy riffs that will definitely encourage some of the craziest pits. Just listening to ‘Don’t Wanna Talk About It‘ will give fans a completely different vibe to a track like ‘Pour up‘ but will still give them the urge to lose their shit.
On a whole it is a fantastic hardcore album, but what I loved about the previous Deez Nuts releases, Word Is Bond seems to lack. A heavier Deez Nuts is great, but a funner Deez Nuts is better I’m afraid.
