Faith No More are back with a new single from their highly anticipated seventh record which will be dropping in May 2015. After their reformation in 2009 and on and off touring, vocalist Mike Patton told press that the band would not remain active beyond touring and not to expect a new studio album.

Until they supported Black Sabbath at Hyde Park fans were not holding their breaths for any new music from the band, when all of a sudden they debuted two brand new songs, ‘Motherfucker’ and ‘Superhero’ (also known by fans as ‘Leader of Men’).

Well, here we are in March and not only do we have ‘Motherfucker’ available to stream, but on March 3rd, Faith No More released ‘Superhero’. I have to say, I was not optimistic about the prospect of any new Faith No More material, and even if it came out, would it hold up from their timeless 90’s records? Or is their unique brand of Alt-rock an outdated relic of the past?

It’s my pleasure to say, Faith No More are back and they have picked up right where they left off.

The first single ‘Motherfucker‘ starts with eery creeping noises and single low-note piano keys. Cue Mike Patton‘s lyrics, talking in a hushed voice in the verse and in classic Patton style he delivers his immensely deep lyrics:

“Force fed more than we eat in the wild
Grazed on a mash that can suffocate a child
Bloated, promoted in an ode to pomped style”

Until we hit the refrain when he repeats “Get the Motherfucker on the phone, on the phone”.

As far as first singles go, it feels more like it will be an intro/first track to their new album. A good track, but definitely not first single material. Faith No More need something more anthem-like and sing-along.
