Ghost plus Zombi
Date: 2nd April 2017
Venue: Brighton Dome, Brighton, UK
In the last couple of years, Ghost have released their 3rd full length album ‘Meliora‘ back in 2015 and recently, their EP ‘Popestar‘ which was released last year. The band are currently touring in support of the new EP all over the UK and Europe. I’m a massive Ghost fan and have been for about 4 years so I knew I had to get to the Brighton Dome show.
Opening for Ghost was a Pittsburgh based duo Zombi, who play instrumental, progressive space rock. I’ll start by saying it’s not something I have ever seen live before but they came on stage and people reacted well. They were interesting to watch and brought something new for metalheads like myself to listen to and appreciate. They enticed the crowd in and showed us what they had to offer – not a bad opener to the evening. 7/10
Next up it was time for the main act to enter the stage. Hailing from Linkoping, Sweden,, Ghost had plenty of awesome material to fill up their set from their numerous releases. Opening up their set with ‘Square Hammer‘ was a perfect way to kick it all off. All of the nameless ghouls came out and then Papa appeared through the smoke. The crowd lapped it up and the place was pretty packed for Ghost’s first appearance in Brighton.
The band went on to play fan favourites, from ‘Secular Haze‘ to ‘Cirice‘ to ‘Body and Blood‘, we were loving every minute. As always, they created such an awesome, atmospheric stage show and the banter and showmanship the band have on stage is great to see; Papa’s speeches were entertaining and filled with some funny lines. Ghost finished on my personal favourite song ‘Monstrance Clock‘ which was a great encore and an epic end to a 90 minute set from the swedish metal band. 9/10
