Have You Heard? COLT 45
Recently winning national plaudits from the likes of Kerrang! Magazine, Rock Sound, Big Cheese Magazine, BBC Radio One and more, COLT 45 are a testament to the phrase “substance over style”. COLT 45 are a three-piece who Merge heartfelt, small-town frustration with melodic punk anthems and infectious hooks, the trio have worked their way up from the bottom by gigging relentlessly.
They have become pioneers for the modest Cumbrian rock scene and have recently launched charity single ‘I Remember When The Rain Came Down’ to help victims of the recent floods. All proceeds from the single went to the Cumbria Flood Appeal.
COLT 45 have an EP due out soon, ‘Snakes & Ladders’ is set to be released on 29th April 2016 via Visible Noise Records and is a short but sharp follow up to their 2014 debut album ‘The Tide Is Turning’. It’s a candid and abrasive look at the ups and downs of their own careers in the music industry, and the challenges they’ve faced both as a band and personally over the past couple of years.
Drummer Adam Lewis explains “This is a DIY record which reflects how we feel about the last few years we’ve spent touring and releasing our music. For every ladder, you climb and opportunity you take, there’s someone or something to put you back in your place. I think we’ve got to a stage where we don’t care about that anymore, we just want to make music we want to listen to and hopefully we’ll reach some new fans with it and continue touring and writing for a long time to come.”
Coming from working class backgrounds in an industry increasingly geared towards the middle class; juggling careers as independent musicians with the responsibilities of raising young families; trying to support their local community and relatives in Cumbria through some of the most devastating floods the region has ever seen – it’s a raw and honest tale of trials, triumph, acceptance and ultimately camaraderie.
COLT 45 recently released single ‘All Hell Broke Loose’ along with a video as the first new material to be taken from ‘Snakes & Ladders‘.
Adam Lewis on the new single: “All Hell Broke Loose was the first track we wrote for our new EP, ‘Snakes & Ladders.’ It fits in nicely with the broader theme of the record – it’s about coming to terms with the fact that hard work and passion aren’t necessarily going to be enough to take you where you want to go, and that ultimately you’re on your own and you have to make your own luck. It’s that idea of one step forward, two steps back to make progress, and as a DIY band, that’s what we’re used to, and that’s where we feel comfortable.
