Matilda’s Scoundrels – Beasts In Disguise
Release Date: 31st January 2015
Bandcamp: http://bit.ly/1Er1SWh

Matilda’s Scoundrels may be new to the scene but they have certainly come out swinging with ‘Beasts In Disguise being the first release of hopefully many from the south coast punks.

Described by the band themselves as ‘Aggro Folk Punk‘, there is no denial that is exactly what they are. There is instant recognition that Matilda’s Scoundrels seem heavily influenced by the likes of Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly with punk songs you can party and get drunk to, though adding that traditional folk sound.

Matilda’s Scoundrels do this with the use of a tin whistle in ‘Our Wake‘ to add a nice, soft melody over the raspy vocals and an accordion to add great depth to their sound. Without a doubt ‘Folk Shit Up’ is the stand out song – definitely the rowdiest song on the EP showing that ‘aggro’ side. You can just picture the crazy scenes as this is played live with punks singing and dancing to the song with pints in their hands. Very impressive first release and judging from their live reputation I expect great things to come.
