Nidingr – The High Heat Lick’s Against Heaven

Nidingr are a black metal band, hailing from Horten, Norway. The first thing I’d like to say about these guys is that guitarist, Teloch is one busy dude; when he’s not busy with Nidingr he’s working on his other band Myrkur or writing and playing guitar for Mayhem.

It has been five long years since the band’s last release but now they’re back; armed and prepared with a new bassist, releasing their fourth album ‘The High Heat Licks Against Heaven‘ via Indie Recordings.

Hangaguo kicks this long awaited album off to a speedy start, with fast drums from Oyvind Myrall. The new bassist does a good job to keep the chaos flowing through. At only 2.5 minutes long, this album is already drawing me in.

There are some points throughout the album that, I have to say, the production doesn’t sound as great. As much as I love this genre, the drums sounded flat at some points and it just wasn’t the greatest, but don’t let this put you off having a listen. ‘The High Heat Licks Against Heaven‘ contains solid, old school black metal and my stand out track has to be ‘On Dead Body Shore‘ which sounds like a throwback to classic Mayhem and Darkthrone mixed with Nidingr own unique sound. Absolutely an album worth checking out.

As much as I love Teloch‘s songwriting in Mayhem, I’m hoping it won’t be another five years for another Nidingr album.
